LCS(L)(3) 112 was one of the mighty midgets, serving the United States faithfully in the Pacific Theatre of World War II Although we hear of Battleships, Carriers, Destroyers and the other "big guns" of the United States Navy, few know of the heroic LCS's and there is precious little information about them. On this website you will find more than a hundred photos taken by the crew of LCS 112 as they fought their way across the Pacific. Naturally, few pictures could be taken under battle conditions, so the majority are of general life aboard ship. Most of the faces are clear, and many are identified. It is my hope that others who served aboard LCS112 or their children may come upon this web page and perhaps find a recognizable face! I'd also like to find other sailors (and/or their children) from LCS(L) 23,LCS(L) 24, LCS(L) 25, LCS(L) 37, LCS(L) 38, LCS(L) 39, LCS(L) 40, LCS(L) 109, LCS(L) 110, LCS(L) 111, and LCS(L) 113 ! These ships were in Flotilla Three, Group 9, as well. Capt. T.C. Aylward USN LC(FF)988 lead the Flotilla. Group 9 was commanded by Lt. B.A. Thirkield LCS(L)24
This Page is a tribute to the service men and women who sacrificed so much in order that we may remain free. It is particularly dedicated to the sailors, Marines, and airmen who ventured to the Far East when their country called and fought perilous battles in order to preserve the American way of life. Above all, it is dedicated to my father, Charles David Byrne (1926-1986) who served aboard LCS(L)(3) 112
